Led by Dina Dong - is a former researcher in migration and diaspora studies, a freelance journalist, and co-founder of Re-AIM, a new grassroots group focusing on re-orienting, advocating, and imagining a better Markham.
Led by Martin Liang - a fellow Re-AIM member, is a long-term Markham resident studying urban planning. With experience working in government, his goal is to bring to light the many ways local participation can benefit communities.
This Jane’s Walk will be taking you around a familiar location in Markham— First Markham Place, but with a different story to tell. Migration, ethnic economies, third places and spaces, and urbanization, what does this strip mall plaza, a relic of 1980s architectural design, have to do with the future of Markham, and Canada in general.
The role of culture and migration in urban planning.
